adzuki bean powder


Some more Asian inspired ingredients used in this batch, and used some finely ground Adzuki Bean powder for a mild scrub, gently exfoliating the skin. The powder is reported to have been used in Japanese skin regimes for centuries to enhance the complexion, drawing out impurities and promoting circulation.




The alluring earthy spicy fragrance comes from a blend of patchouli, amyris and sandalwood essential oils.




I love the lingering, sensual and inspiring to the senses fragrance it leaves on my skin. Then again, I am being biased, as I know it comes from my dwindling bottle of precious (read expensive) Sandalwood.

    Nice soap, Cynthia-Rose. I have never heard of this Adzuki Bean powder, I will have to look for it's latin translation :). And patchouli added to a soap gives it a luxurious secnt, isn't it?

    Again a lovely soap you produced there in Cape Town haha..
    What a great idea to use adzuki bean powder. Did you make the powder yourself.
    I don't think we have it here, maybe in the biological foodstore they may have adzuki beans. Have to keep my eyes open next time I visit them.

    I read adzuki powder gives a dusty pink color to soap. I know these beans are used in north India, but I wonder if I can find some in my hometown which is in south India. You must have guessed I want to make a natural pink color soap once I am back home.

      Nitya, the adzuki powder I added straight to the soap at light trace, and it hasn't (in my opinion) changed the colour at all. I am infusing some powder in oil at the moment to do a test batch, will keep you posted as to what happens.

    I luv adzuki beans! I use them and ground up rice in some of my scrubby butter bars I make. They're hard working little beans and sure help scrub your skin. This bar looks beautiful. I just started following your blog and I very much enjoy it.
